Colorfabb – NGEN – 2.85 – Orange Review

The NGEN co-polymer was introduced to me by Will Kostelecky from the facebook 3D printing group as an answer to high temp requirements in lieu of using ABS with the UM2+. One problem, it was always way too brittle when I tried to use it so eventually I kind of gave up. So 6 months passed and I’d moved on, I now have the Sigma and in that time I’ve learned a few things. One is that NGEN needs high heat and low fans. Which is good because I can do that with the Sigma quite happily. What is NGEN?...

Great Teleprompter 3D Printed Model for Youtubers

You may not know the name Agustin Flowalistik but you will have definitely seen his work. Whether it be beautiful dual colour vases, low poly Star Wars figures or of course Pokemon characters, Agustin has been smashing out quality model after quality model for free for some time now. I like to follow the dude, as he is pretty much single handedly producing all of thingiverse’s dual colour collection but this model stood out. Not just a decoritive item, but a really funky functional one. This group alone (3D Printing) has quite a few YouTube celebs, but in general this way of connecting with the audience is becoming very very popular. The main issue with Vlogging is the speed in which people want the content leading to either reading from scripts off-camera or ad-libbing leading to chaotic delivery. Agustin Flowalistik developed this uber-funky little bracket to hold a piece of glass in front of your camera at the correct angle to reflect your mobile phone screen without ruining the shot. Nice! ...

Colorfila White PLA – 2.85 Review

White PLA, it’s probably the staple of your filament draw. But not all are created equal. I’ve probably used and tested 10x white filaments. White is a tricky one because very often the pigmentation is created by adding granular pigment to a clear PLA recipe, often leaving you with a rough grainy material. This can also cause nozzle wear. So Colorfila manages to buck that trend, the filament itself on the roll is very, very smooth and despite initially blocking, I’m fairly sure that was down to an over tightened extruder as opposed to the filament, I’ve since printed...

Voronator

Creating Voronois is difficult, beyond my capabilities anyway. Luckily this clever sausage, Maklabu, has created the Voronator! This tool is a simple web app, upload your stl and it gets voronated. Concerned about what happens to the file: “Storage of User Files and generated Data All submitted files or inputs, as well as the converted outputs, are deleted automatically after half an hour. No backups are made and only employees of Maklabu GmbH are able to access your files. The files are kept for thirty minutes with the sole purpose of giving you enough time to download them. We do...

Top 5 Best 3D Printed Chess Sets

Why didn’t I think of this before? I’ve always wanted a custom orange chess set, why not print one? FDM isn’t necessarily the best method of printing such small objects but I’ve seen many with great results on this journey to find the best 3d printed chess set. I’m going to be attempting this with a BCN3D Sigma, probably maxed right out on settings – I’ll report my findings in another thread. I guess one of the best things here is how modular the pieces are, you can redesign individual bits, even the board. Anyhow, here’s the top 5...
